UPDATE: Fay and Hunter to be Reunited at Rainbow Bridge

UPDATE: The following comment brings closure to the tireless, loving effort of volunteers from around the world to reunite Fay and Hunter. When this site was created, it was known the dog in the picture was Hunter and he indeed was rescued and sent to Marin Shelter in CA. It was learned he had been adopted, but to whom and why his microchip did not lead him home was not known. The story unfolded and Fay fought long and hard to bring her little boy home to cuddle in her loving arms, to no avail. PEACE TO YOU FAY - May Hunter bring you many wet loving kisses when you meet at "The Rainbow Bridge"

Peace to Fay - Kisses to Hunter.

COMMENT AS RECEIVED: FAY BOURG WAS MY SISTER . IF THE PERSON OR PEOPLE WHO TOOK HER DOG CAN READ THIS? THEY CAN STOP WORRING ABOUT FAY TRYING TO GET HUNTER BACK.ON 04/10/08 FAY TOOK AN OVERDOSE OF SLEEPING PILLS, WENT INTO A COMA AND DIED ON 04/19/2008. AMONG HER THINGS WERE SOME AUDIO TAPES OF HER SPEAKING WITH A LADY & SHE WAS DESPERATE TO GET HUNTER BACK.THE LADY TOLD HER THAT HTE NEW OWNER OF HUNTER DID NOT HAVE TO BRING THE DOG IN SO THEY COULD SCAN HIM FOR THE CHIP TO VERIFY THAT IT WAS HER DOG. THIS CONFUSED AND UPSET HER . SHE WAS HEARING IMPAIRED, SHE HAD VERY FEW FRIENDS. SHE LOST EVERYTHING IN KATRINA AND THESE PEOPLE REFUSED TO COOPERATE.WHEN SHE WENT INTO A COMA I WAS FEEDING HER CAT & WHEN SHE DIED I TOOK HER CAT BECAUSED I DID NOT WANT IT TO GET GASED.I'M SO GLAD THAT I DON'T HAVE TO LOOK HER PET IN THE EYES KNOWING I STOLE HIM. I HOPE THE NEW OWNERS ARE HAPPY. GOOD JOB THIEF. THEY HAD NO IDEA HOW KATRINA CRUSSED SO MANY PEOPLE AND HER HAVING HER DOG COULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE. I DID NOT EVEN KNOW THIS ARTICLE WAS HERE UNTIL TODAY WHEN I GOOGLED HER NAME.AGAIN GOOD JOB THIEF. MAY ALL YOUR DREAMS BE OF FAY BEGGING YOU FOR HER DOG.JANICE

Katrina Service Dog - Help Hunter Find His Way Home

Please Help Me Find My Way Home
It was originally thought that Hunter was one of the dogs that was massacred in the schools of St Bernard Parish...When the bodies of the dogs were identified, Hunter was not among them.

CAN YOU IMAGINE??

THE LAST TIME THE OWNER SAW HUNTER, HE WAS PADDLING BEHIND THE BOAT AFTER SHE WAS HANDCUFFED FOR REFUSING TO LEAVE HIM:

1) IMAGINE: THE HORROR WHEN SEEING THE IMAGES ON TV OF THE MASSACRED DOGS LYING IN POOLS OF BLOOD AND BELIEVING YOUR DOG WAS AMONG THEM! SO HELPLESS, THEY HAD OWNERS WHO LOVED THEM AND FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS BELIEVING THEY WOULD BE SAFE

2) IMAGINE: SEARCHING FOR MORE THAN A YEAR BEFORE VOLUNTEERS FIND A DOG RESEMBLING YOURS AND HE IS ALIVE

3) IMAGINE: BEING KEPT FROM HIM.

Have You Seen Me? My name is Hunter
I am a Katrina Dog that was rescued, transported
to California and adopted.

My Mom, Fay, has been looking for me since the rescuers handcuffed her and threw me aside after Hurricane Katrina and the levees broke. I kept swimming to the boat, trying to get to Mom, and the rescuers kept pushing me back into the water. Mom was handcuffed because she would not leave me and I didn't want to leave her either.

I am Mom's Ears! Please, Help Reunite Us!

It is believed I am the dog in the shelter rescue pics above. The shelter said "they do not know where this dog is now" - Can You Help?

Lots of people are looking for me. If you have any information where I am living now, please find it in your heart to help Mom find me.

Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could help. Mom only wants me home, she is probably so sad. I bet she is still crying and misses me so much.

Many of the new families do not know the Katrina pets, they so lovingly brought into their homes, have owners still desperately searching. And when they find out, they are overjoyed and ready to do whatever it takes to get the little ones back into the loving arms of their owners.

It was originally thought that Hunter was one of the dogs that was massacred in the schools of St Bernard Parish. Fay was told that Hunter would be taken to the school for safekeeping. When the bodies of the dogs were identified, Hunter was not among them. **Please, this lady has been through enough - Let's bring Hunter Home!**

You shall not see your kinsman's ox or sheep driven astray without showing concern about it. See to it that it is returned to your kinsman. If this kinsman does not live near you, or you do not know who he may be, take it to your own place and keep it with you until he claims it; then give it back to him. Deuteronomy 22:1-2

The profound loss even continues today. Entire communities remain ghost towns with spray paint reminders of the grim searches for people and their pets...... Fay lost everything in the flood, including her dog, Hunter. She says a rescuer threw him out of the boat. She jumped in after him but was pulled back and handcuffed. The last time she saw Hunter, he was paddling behind the boat........ Heidi Guerra: "We have been searching for over a year for him."

Several of many, many posts about Hunter on Pet Rescue Boards

13753. HUNTER ST. BERNARD re-posted by saddog, 9/20/05 19:48 ET I am in the Kelly Air Force Base located in San Antonio, Tx & was unable to bring my dog "Hunter" with me. Hunter is a St Bernard mix about 1-year old. He weighs about 25 lbs & is mostly black with brown legs (front legs are short & back legs are normal.) Hunter has a chip in his neck that will alert my former residence. Unfortunately, I am not there now. If you have any information, please contact Fay G Bourg at 210 255-xxx. I was told he was sent to the St Bernard shelter. Any information would be appreciated. I really need to know he is ok. I am deaf, & Hunter knows certain commands. Please let me know anything. HUNTER the Service Dog - please read by AnnetteDub, 10/2/05 16:01 ET
For the last few days, we have been reading about the scene that greeted the rescuers who entered the St Bernard Parish Middle School. They entered the school in response to the following posts about Hunter the service dog. There was enough cruelty involved in the seperation of Hunter from his owner, Fay Bourg. This was verified when the rescuers contacted Donna Dickerson, the chaplain of the hospital where Fay Bourg is staying, to verify the message.
Worse was to follow.
There does not appear to be any dog answering Hunter's description among the poor corpses of dogs found in the mansion or school. Indeed, Hunter was wearing a brown collar, and some poor, brave, desperate dog chewed off his brown collar, and made his escape. There is a chance that Hunter is still out there, near the school, or has maybe been rescued recently. I think that it would be a wonderful project for this Pet Rescue board if we went all-out to try and reunite Hunter with his owner. That means, for example, checking for similar type dogs in the pet rescue boards. AS of yet, I have no photo of Hunter, but if anyone sees a dog like him, please email

One of Many Articles regarding the St Bernard Katrina Pet Massacre
..........In late September, Marilyn McGee, a local volunteer animal rescuer, was in search of a service dog (HUNTER!) that had reportedly been left at Beauregard by its hearing-impaired owner. She and her husband discovered a grisly scene at the school.
