UPDATE: Lost Katrina Service Dog - Help Bring Hunter Home

Please Help Me Find My Way Home. It was originally thought Hunter was massacred in the schools of St Bernard Parish, When the bodies of the dogs were identified, Hunter was not among them.

UPDATE: Fay and Hunter to be Reunited at Rainbow Bridge

UPDATE: The following comment brings closure to the tireless, loving effort of volunteers from around the world to reunite Fay and Hunter. When this site was created, it was known the dog in the picture was Hunter and he indeed was rescued and sent to Marin Shelter in CA. It was learned he had been adopted, but to whom and why his microchip did not lead him home was not known. The story unfolded and Fay fought long and hard to bring her little boy home to cuddle in her loving arms, to no avail. PEACE TO YOU FAY - May Hunter bring you many wet loving kisses when you meet at "The Rainbow Bridge"

COMMENT AS RECEIVED: FAY BOURG WAS MY SISTER . IF THE PERSON OR PEOPLE WHO TOOK HER DOG CAN READ THIS? THEY CAN STOP WORRING ABOUT FAY TRYING TO GET HUNTER BACK.ON 04/10/08 FAY TOOK AN OVERDOSE OF SLEEPING PILLS, WENT INTO A COMA AND DIED ON 04/19/2008. AMONG HER THINGS WERE SOME AUDIO TAPES OF HER SPEAKING WITH A LADY & SHE WAS DESPERATE TO GET HUNTER BACK.THE LADY TOLD HER THAT HTE NEW OWNER OF HUNTER DID NOT HAVE TO BRING THE DOG IN SO THEY COULD SCAN HIM FOR THE CHIP TO VERIFY THAT IT WAS HER DOG. THIS CONFUSED AND UPSET HER . SHE WAS HEARING IMPAIRED, SHE HAD VERY FEW FRIENDS. SHE LOST EVERYTHING IN KATRINA AND THESE PEOPLE REFUSED TO COOPERATE.WHEN SHE WENT INTO A COMA I WAS FEEDING HER CAT & WHEN SHE DIED I TOOK HER CAT BECAUSED I DID NOT WANT IT TO GET GASED.I'M SO GLAD THAT I DON'T HAVE TO LOOK HER PET IN THE EYES KNOWING I STOLE HIM. I HOPE THE NEW OWNERS ARE HAPPY. GOOD JOB THIEF. THEY HAD NO IDEA HOW KATRINA CRUSSED SO MANY PEOPLE AND HER HAVING HER DOG COULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE. I DID NOT EVEN KNOW THIS ARTICLE WAS HERE UNTIL TODAY WHEN I GOOGLED HER NAME.AGAIN GOOD JOB THIEF. MAY ALL YOUR DREAMS BE OF FAY BEGGING YOU FOR HER DOG.JANICE

    The reason why Hunter was not reunited is because the Marin Humane Society was not being cooperative. They knew that HUNTER was a service dog, they knew that he had a chip. (They found two) They knew that that Fay wanted him back. They knew who the adopter was. All the evidence was out there and they still chose to ignore it.

    A simple search on the petfinder disaster site would have made an easy match. They just never bothered to look which was what was REQUIRED of them.

    Just came across this after all these years, Unbelieveable that everyone keeps passing the buck. Of ALL the animals rescued in Katrina, Fay is the only one I know of who was interviewed and story made so public because someone refused to return her beloved pet. What I found ironic is the new owners named the dog Buddy. What they obviously don't know is that Buddy was Fay's nickname as a young girl. She looked like Kristy McNichol who starred in Family and her friends would always call her Buddy. Just getting this clear,Anonymous Said.. Are you saying the new owners did not know they had Fay's dog? Or , are you saying the
    new owners were aware but since Marin did not force them to return Hunter that they are off the hook? Did the owners know or not. Stop with the game playing and make no bones about it Fay will haunt who she damn well pleases. Don't feel the need to be anonymous. Janice

    The new so called owner knew that
    Fay wanted her dog back, they also knew tha Hunter was a service dog for a deaf woman.She knew the whole story of what happened to Fay. She knew but didn't care. She hired a lawyer to help her keep Hunter tied up in court for as long as possible. I'll never understand what makes people so evil.
